Flower U-Pick Garden Hours

Stay Tuned for 2024 Upick Hours and start date

Our U-Pick is open mid July-October. For specific dates we are open please see our Facebook and Instagram pages. The U-Pick is located on our family farm and is only open to the public during the scheduled dates and times.

Life is busy. Stop to enjoy the flowers.

We often hear customers say how much they needed some down time to just stop and enjoy nature. We understand – life is hectic. That’s why we open our farm to families and friends – so they can come and disconnect from their busy lives and reconnect with nature. We suggest allowing 45 minutes to an hour to enjoy the flower farm.

Welcome to our Farm

Hello, we are Bree & Rich Woodbridge and these are our daughters – the farm’s 7th generation! After eight seasons of running a successful fruit and vegetable farms share, that included a big upick flower garden, we are now taking our passion for growing flowers to the next level. We offer a bountiful flower upick garden that is open to everyone! We have so much fun seeing our guests get joy out of the flowers we grow – all naturally, organically and pesticide-free.

We grow two dozen varieties of flowers. You can get in on the fun through our flower U-pick garden.

We offer a bountiful vegetable farmstand on Saturday mornings.

Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with life on the farm, what’s blooming, and how to get the flowers.

Keep it colorful!

When we revived McCollum Orchards, our vision was to connect visitors with the natural beauty and living history of this hidden gem in the city of Lockport.

Before You Visit

  • Sometimes, Mother Nature can make our garden soggy and slippery. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
  • Sunglasses, water bottles, hats, and sunscreen can make our sunny garden a lot more enjoyable.
  • Some people prefer to wear gloves as a few plants might have scratchy leaves and sap.
  • We welcome you to take photos of the flowers and your experience on the farm to share with your friends. #mccollumorchards
  • We welcome amateur photography sessions during our U-Pick.
  • We do not allow animals or pets on our farm. Please email mccollumorchards@gmail.com in advance if you have a registered service dog.
  • Children are welcome! It’s a great activity for kids and families and out of town guests! Please supervise children at all times; this is a working farm.

How to Get to the Farm

  • Follow your GPS map directions
  • Our farm homestead is located on a neighborhood street in Lowertown Lockport.
  • The farm entrance is located on the corner of North and North Adam streets, north of the stone carriage house.
  • The parking lot is to the left of the entrance
  • PLEASE exit at the far end of the parking lot. It has much better visibility both ways on the street and is much safer for pulling out onto North Adam street.

Upon Arrival

  • Park in the parking lot and head to the white tent for check-in.
  • Choose which size of cup you want to pick into. We provide the cups in two sizes. You just cut and fill your cup, no need to keep count of the stems. TIP: Strip the bottom leaves so that you can fit more stems in your cup!
  • Fill your container 1/3 full with water and two pumps of complimentary flower food at our tent.
  • We provide scissors, both lefties and righties. You are welcome to bring your own snips, that might work on the larger sunflowers.
  • Time to start cutting flowers! Read the signs for each variety to learn how to cut the stems properly and which flowers are ready to cut. (The Wiggle Test!)
  • Most people spend about 45 minutes – one hour on the farm. We close at noon and ask that you please give yourself plenty of time to pick your flowers.
  • Once you have cut your flowers, if you have not already done so, checkout is back at the white tent. ENJOY the beauty you harvested.

When You Get Home

  • DON’T leave your flowers in a hot car and DO try to keep them out of direct sunlight.
  • We have all smelled the smelly old flower vase water. Just rinsing the vase out before the next use is not good enough. The most important thing to keep your flowers fresh is starting with a clean vase or jar at home. Using hot soapy water or even a drop of bleach to clean it after each use is super important. Bacteria in the water clog the stems’ ability to take up water and will drastically reduce the flowers’ vase life.
  • Give the stems a fresh cut at a 45-degree angle before putting them in the clean vase(s) at home. This maximizes the surface area for water uptake.
  • Be sure there are no leaves below the water line in the vase. This will cause the water to build bacteria quickly.
  • We recommend changing out the vase water every 3 days, pulling out tired blooms, and giving the stems a fresh cut on the bottom to keep flowers fresh for 1-2 weeks.
  • Keeping the flowers away from direct sunlight will extend their vase life.

How Long Will the Flower U-Pick Be Open?

We say ‘from now until first frost.’ Who knows when that will be? Our goal is to stay open as long as possible for you to enjoy our flower u-pick and farmstand. We look forward to seeing you at the farm this season!
